ndie developer Serellan has announced that their tactical shooter Takedown: Red Sabre, which reached its Kickstarter goal back in April 2012, will be hitting Steam and Xbox Live Arcade on the 20th September. 505 Games has picked up publishing duties for the indie title. The shooter arises from the dev team’s frustration at the state of tactical shooters these days. “In recent years, shooters have become homogenized. There used to be a wide range of different games to choose, from run-and-gun action titles to slow-paced tactical shooters focusing on strategy and tactics, but now most shooters follow the same model of big set pieces, regenerating health, linear levels, and “cinematic experiences.” The realistic tactical shooters with in-depth planning have almost entirely disappeared in recent years,” Serellan complains on the official page.
The developer calls Takedown: Red Sabre a ”thinking man’s shooter”, where ”the player that takes things slow, aims carefully, and plans their moves right will overcome the player who runs in with guns blazing.” The game will feature close-quarters battle, where tactics used by the SWAT and SOF units are emphasized.
Takedown: Red Sabre will be a budget-minded $14.99. Gamers can preorder the game on Steam here.
