For those of you who prefer digital over browser-based, Quake Live will be re-released as the former after years of enjoying success as the latter. The browser-based format is being ditched due to changes in the way plugin-based games are supported by popular browsers like Chrome and Firefox.
According to id Software, ”This change will allow us to have greater control over the game environment, and more tightly integrate the game with the online components going forward. Some of these benefits will be apparent from day one: getting in and out of games is a smoother experience, and you will be able to view server pings from the match browser before joining the game to better judge connection quality.”
There’s no release date for the digital version yet, but the developer is taking applications to beta-test it. Quake Live was originally launched on the 6th August 2010.
