Indie developer Monsters has announced a new platformer / adventure game hybrid, Hybris, which seems to be a cross between Henry Selick’s films and Braid, with a dash of Tim Burton mixed in.
According to the developer, ”Hybris is a psychological puzzle/platform thriller that will haunt your dreams and thoughts with its dark setting. As you fight for survival you will journey deep into your heart and soul and face a truth too unbearable to consider.”
The game follows a boy named Kevin, who is a teenager who’s had a hard life, growing up with no one, who has ”felt alone for as long as (he) can remember”, not helped by the fact his parents are constantly bickering. To escape the fighting, Kevin enjoys going to the top of a hill to chill out - but one night, he witnesses a light filling up the sky, changing everything.
The developer states that players will have to focus on analyzing the environment to solve the puzzles, combining ”physics and inventory elements from classic adventures.”
Hybris is due to be released in early 2014. Keep an eye on this one.
