As announced back in May, Rift, Trion World’s most successful MMO, is now officially free to play, no restrictions on levels or content for registered free players.
Subscriptions will be “optional”, with Trion promising those who do pay will get a Patron membership level. Meanwhile, players who go free-to-play will have an expanded in-game store ”where a variety of services–mounts, boosts, wardrobe items, and more–will be available for purchase.”
Also accompanying the free-to-play shift is the 2.3 update Empyreal Assault, adding a new zone (Dendrome), 10-player raid, Chronicle, open-world raid bosses as well as game performance improvements.
