The developer compares Ravensdale to such classic titles as Contra and Metal Slug, but with a co-op focused twist. ”For example,” notes the studio, ”while you rapidly pull yourself towards and past your buddies, they block projectiles heading your way and feed an overdrive mode to boost the entire team!”
However, the co-op focus will not rob from the gameplay experience for single players as a ”stripped down co-op mode”, as they will have multiple strategic options to deal with enemies. ”An enemy bearing a heavy shield can be brute-forced by shooting or slamming the shield until it breaks, outmaneuvered and attacked from the back, reduced to a fine paste by hazards, or the shield can be simply ignored by using a piercing weapon that hits all enemies in its path,” notes Black Forest.
Ravensdale will be primarily a PC title. While it may go multiplatform due to funding, it will be lead developed on Windows.
Black Forest Games is aiming at a Q2 2014 launch for Ravensdale, and are looking to raise at least $500K. Check out the Kickstarter page here.
