For gamers who were faithful to the Games Workshop-licensed MMO Warhammer Online, today represents a sad day as the game’s servers close down for good.
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning launched back in 2008, developed by Mythic, which also had previously worked on the classic Dark Age of Camelot, and its roots showed with Warhammer Online’s Realm vs. Realm play.
The MMO also popularized public quests, in which events would cycle over and over that any passerby could engage in, and try to win prizes by contributing the most to defeating the quest.
Mythic also added an unusual anti-ganking feature by having high level PCs turn into chickens if they dared wander into low level areas.
