Gamers who played the sci-fi Metroidvania-style game Dark Matter were shocked when the game ended with a black title card describing the ending. An alleged member of the indie developer InterWave blamed the failed Kickstarter drive for it.
According to “Viper” on the official boards, ”The full story is indeed not complete yet because originally we wanted a longer game (12-16 hours) but couldn’t finish it completely due to time and money (and Kickstarter failing).”
The Kickstarter fundraising for Dark Matter only raised about 12% of the £50,000 goal this summer. InterWave had to choose between abandoning the half-finished ambitious game or releasing what they could ”to bring something out to the world and show everyone the world of Dark Matter.”
Unasked is why the studio didn’t try Steam Early Access.
