As promised, American McGee has started his Kickstarter fundraising for OZombie, his take on The Wizard of Oz tale, which will involve Dorothy’s great-great-granddaughter.
In the game, which McGee states is based on the story told in all fourteen Frank L. Baum books (screw you, Ruth Plumly Thompson!), players will be joining forces with Tin Woodsman and The Cowardly Lion to battle Scarecrow’s mindless army for control of Oz.
McGee promises two modes for the game:
1. OZombie will be first and foremost a single player game. You’ll play as Dorothy and be able to persuade many of the captivating fiction’s familiar characters to join your hunting party
- OZombie will also support a multiplayer mode, which you can unlock after finishing the single player experience. In multiplayer you’ll be able to select from a range of player characters and enjoy competitive features like Raids and Tournaments.
As with McGee’s previous projects, OZombie will be “non-conformist” and done in a steampunk style. The game will focus on magic and ”a vast collection of unique ‘Ozite’ artifacts.”
OZombie will be DRM-free, and for $55 and up backers, all DLC will be free. Check out the Kickstarter here.
