Star Wars: The Old Republic game designer Jason Attard posted a new developer blog post for the MMO, detailing the new features being introduced in Galactic Starfighter, including the ability to upgrade and customize a fleet of starships.
According to Attard, ”Each ship can be equipped with five major components, which grant weapons and active combat abilities, and four minor components, which give passive statistical boosts. Initially your ships will have one default component in each slot, but every slot has several different components you can unlock and swap between. On top of that, each ship will have a different set of components that it can equip.” Components themselves have three to five tiers of purchasable upgrades.
In other words, players can tailor their ship to match their preferred gameplay experience.
Furthermore, a new currency, Requisition, will be used to purchase component unlocks and upgrades. Requisition points are won by completing battles and achieving goals within them, such as capturing control points, destroying enemy players, defending friendly objectives, and so on.
