Indie developer Elder Games - and the singular on “developer” is apropos, as the entire studio consists of one man, Ede Tarsoly - has announced a new science fiction real-time strategy game, Meridian: New World.
The main thrust of this RTS is the emphasis on telling a story through a single player-only game. The player takes on the role of Daniel Hanson, who is the commander of the first expedition to planet Meridian. In his exploration, he discovers “dark secrets”.
The storytelling has an effect on how the game evolves. “Shape the world around you with every decision you make and through every dialogue with your crew,” promises the developer. The player will also use the equipment for their units as well as which special abilities to adopt.
These abilities can be used anywhere on the battlefield, which can potentially turn the tide of battle. Players also have the option of using a covert approach to sabotage the enemy power supply to shut down their production. Of course, there’s also the option of researching superior weapons or better special abilities, or just making a crapton of money.
Tarsoly states Meridian: New World will be released sometime in early 2014. Interested gamers can check out the game at its Moddb.com site here.
