BioWare’s Shadow of Revan expansion to MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic is now available through its Early Access pre-order offer to subscribers. That means you can start on Revan’s ‘final chapter’.
Players have already faced off against Revan but no one really knew what happened to him, so now BioWare intends to ”answer that question,” says senior producer Bruce MacLean.
”The story of Revan still hasn’t been concluded and it’s obviously, to this era, the most important story of The Old Republic,” MacLean told Shacknews in an interview.
Original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic spoilers ahead!
”The foundational games of this era were Knights of the Old Republic and in those games, you were Revan. Revan was in our flashpoint in our game earlier on and some players defeated him and he vanished, where he’s presumed dead. But his storyline is incomplete. What is the ultimate fate of Revan? So we set out from the beginning of this expansion to answer that question.”
BioWare is also introducing the new Discipline system with Shadow of Revan, which is meant to ease the return of former players. They want to lessen the pain of having to deal with all those talent points being reset.
”A lot of MMO expansions go through this pain and we went through this same thing with Rise of the Hutt Cartel. You log in to play this new expansion and your talents are reset, your hotkeys are a mess, and you spend an hour trying to figure out what you can do,” explains MacLean.
”Disciplines remove this barrier. You log in and there’s a clear screen telling you your roles. By picking these roles, your core damage rotational abilities are given to you. You can’t mess it up and you have more utility choices than you ever had before.”
2015 is meant to feel the shockwaves of this new expansion as major story events unfold throughout the year, and with significant new gameplay features being teased.
Whether BioWare will ever extended the class-based story missions is unknown, as the MMO’s greatest strength is also holding it back; full cast voice-overs.
