It’s always a good day when you get new Bros for Broforce. For the latest update, titled ‘Death From Above’, developer Free Lives has added two - machine-gun legged Cherry Broling and grenade-flinging Colonel James Broddock.
There’s also a bunch of fixes and improvements to the gameplay, a new announcer and re-recorded voicework for your terrorist foes.
Side-scrolling action blaster Broforce is still in Early Access, which explains the steady list of new player characters, or ‘Bros’ as the game calls them. Must be fun rooting through schlocky action films searching for new heroes to Bro-ify. From a player perspective not having to pay extra for them is pretty sweet too.
Of the two new additions, ‘Cherry Broling’ is based on Rose McGowan’s lead character from gleefully trashy B-movie Planet Terror, while Col. James Broddock is based on Chuck Norris’s protagonist from 1980s Rambo rip-off Missing in Action. Cherry is the first downwards-shooting Bro (she has a machine-gun instead of a leg after all), which sounds highly impractical, while Broddock utilises a much more straightforward massive grenade launcher.
Video game sound designer Joonas Turner voices a new announcer, and also provides voicework for the game’s unpatriotic enemies. Some of the other main changes include tweaks to various Bro weapon skills, faster enemy reaction times and altered camera effects. You can read the full list of changes here.
