An interesting indie project is underway called Executive Assault, which combines first-person shooter with real-time strategy. It has achieved build 0.60 and its creator has released a new gameplay video.
It’s far from finished but it’s filling out. We plan and build our base, including our production facilities and defences, and then unleash our armies - but we can also play as the units.
We play as a CEO charged with conquering a planet, which means we need a large complex to churn out military assets to wipe out the corporate competition.
The first-person shooter segment of the game lets us take control of units at ground level, and even lets you explore inside the buildings you’ve constructed. It means you don’t have to just assault the outside but can break into enemy buildings and sabotage them internally. There’s plenty of building types and research to conduct.
Executive Assault features:
▪ Command armies and build bases from above.
▪ Take control of tanks, robots and aircraft to fully immerse yourself in the combat.
▪ Design and construct bases which you can then walk and fight inside.
▪ Control doors, turrets, alarm, forcefields to defend against attack.
▪ An extensive technology tree featuring over 200 technologies ranging from lasers to weather control.
▪ Sneak into the enemy base and steal technology or shut down their power grid.
▪ Vast array of planets to explore and strip mine.
▪ Multiplayer, as there’s nothing more satisfying then nuking your friends.
It’s an ambitious indie project, and doesn’t have a release schedule yet. Check out the official website for more.
