Developer Almost Human has revealed that dungeon-crawling sequel Legend of Grimrock 2 is now in alpha, but interestingly also confirmed that the title would not be getting an Early Access version, unlike almost every other new release these days.
Speaking to RPS, the team said, “We are kind of old-fashioned and want to release the game in a polished condition, so Steam Early Access is not planned. We are going to have preorders though.”
OK, so they’re still planning pre-orders. Nobody’s perfect. Still, it’s rare to see a developer purposefully avoid Early Access. While it can be a powerful tool in a developer’s arsenal, it’s not right for every game out there, and the previous Grimrock game was one that rewarded players jumping in sight unseen.
Legend of Grimrock 2 is expected this year, and brings a new outdoor environment, upgraded monster intelligence and a reworked skill system to the table.
