Stardock has joined forces with a bunch of Age of Empires vets over at developer BonusXP to publish an as yet unannounced strategy game.
It being unannounced and all, we’ve no idea what form the new game will take. We do know that it’s going to be utilising Stardock’s ‘Project Tachyon’ initiative.
What’s that, you say? Well, it’s a ”cloud-based metagaming infrastructure” that works alongside platforms like Steamworks to provide ”easy implementation of matchmaking and leagueplay, cloud-hosted multiplayer contests, web-powered progress tracking, and more”. Given the focus on online functionality you’d assume that the mystery game will feature some kind of multiplayer mode.
BonusXP have some decent pedigree in their line-up. Co-founders Dave Pottinger, John Evanson, and Jason Sallenbach are all former big cheeses at Ensemble Studios, the developer best known for Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, and Halo Wars. More recently they’ve been working on the tower defense game Orcs Must Die! and Hero Academy.
Stardock and BonusXP promise that more information regarding their secret project will be announced ”at a later date”.
