Eugen Systems is hoping to go back to the “Golden Era” of RTS games with Act of Aggression, a near-future mix of base-building and shooting things with tanks.
It’s a rather belated sequel to 2005’s Act of War, and Eugen are planning to show it off at Gamescom this week.
When Eugen describe it as a classic-style RTS, they aren’t kidding. You’ve got three factions - the tech-happy Cartel, fast-striking Chimere and vanilla flavour US Army - battling it out across a ravaged Earth. All the familiar mechanics are there, base-building, resource gathering and a whole bunch of different units locked in a fancy game of rock, paper, scissors.
As you gain experience through battle, however, you can choose to specialise in a number of ways. You might focus on infantry assaults, for example, or the good old tank rush. There’s two solo campaigns to get you nice and familiar with all the different systems before you jump into multiplayer to get battered.
No hints regarding a release date, yet. Hopefully we’ll learn more at Gamescom.
