Publisher Tommo, which specialises in retro titles, has teamed up with developer Night Dive Studios to restore and optimise several classic PC games, which will then be distributed through Steam, GOG and other online retailers.
It’s part of Tommo’s new Retroism brand, which aims to bring back beloved titles from “MicroProse, Accolade, Infogrames and other iconic publishers.” The first games to be published are Sid Meier’s Colonization, Pirates! Gold Plus and Sid Meier’s Covert Action.
Those three cult hits will be bundled up in the Retroism Explorer Pack, which will hit Steam later this week. Others are on their way, both individually and in bundle packs, so if there’s a retro PC title that you remember fondly but that’s been largely forgotten by everyone else, don’t lose hope just yet. It might be on the way.
“For many of us that grew up playing these classic game titles, these games represent an important part of our lives,” writes Stephen Kick, CEO of Night Dive Studios. ”Through our partnership with Tommo, Inc. we have been able to make them accessible again for a new generation.”
The full list of distributors listed by Tommo is; Steam, GOG.com, Amazon, Humble Store, MacGameStore, GamersGate and Green Man Gaming. There’s also a work in progress hub site over at Retroism.com that will eventually collate various retrospectives, videos, and images of original release materials. Any classic titles you’d like to see revisited?
