The Sun and Moon is Daniel Linssen’s odd little platform-puzzler (and winner of the 29th Ludum Dare Game Jam) which you can currently play for free via your browser.
Come October 31 it will be available via Steam in the form of a full retail release, with 120 new levels, a bunch of time goals and a soundtrack by Dubmood.
The Sun and Moon’s a kind of mix between Mario and Snake. You control this little blob thing that can jump and morph through walls, and your task is just to collect three orbs scattered throughout the level.
The game wrings a lot of fun from this relatively simple premise, and gets infuriatingly difficult (mostly in a good way) once you hit the later levels - you can only morph through the walls when you hit a certain speed, which requires cat-like reflexes to maintain without flying through the wall into empty space and falling to your death. Linssen’s mentioned adding controller support before, but there’s no mention of it in the announcement trailer’s description. Hopefully it’ll be added, because using the keyboard can be a little awkward on the trickier levels.
You can still test out the browser game for free while waiting for that October 31 release date. No information on price yet.
