It seems Microsoft doesn’t want rival Sony to corner the VR headset market as the software giant is preparing to unveil their own VR gear during next years’ E3 in Los Angeles.
Sources from the supply chain of components let slip the info, and say Microsoft’s hardware team is behind the endeavour. Sony unveiled their Project Morpheus VR tech back in March.
No virtual reality headset, such as the Oculus Rift, has yet released commercially to consumers. More and more development studios and platforms have been voicing their approval of the technology, providing some of the kinks are worked out, like combating ‘motion sickness’ that can be triggered.
Facebook acquired Oculus VR recently, which ruffled a few feathers among its supporters for ‘selling out’. VR headgear is expected to become a major staple in the battle for next-gen gaming. Microsoft already has their own Google-glass like device in the works, as part of their Fortaleza project.
Microsoft would likely favour Xbox for their VR device, but if Phil Spencer’s promise that it’s ”about gaming on Windows” this January at Windows 10 debut, then perhaps PC would be in their plans?
