Amidst rumours of unpaid wages and a mass staff exodus at Crytek, here’s one developer who has very definitely jumped ship.
Tiago Sousa, a ten year veteran Crytek graphics engineer, has joined id Software as lead rendering programmer on the studio’s idTech 6 projects, in particular the upcoming Doom reboot. Hey Tiago! Fix the pop in would you?
Sousa posted on his Twitter page last Friday revealing the news, writing ”Happy to announce i’ll be helping the amazingly talented id Software team with Doom and idTech 6. Very excited :)”
He follows Crytek UK development manager Ben Harris and, reportedly, Homefront game director Hasit Zala out of the Germany-based company. Which won’t do much to reassure those who’ve been hearing unsettling rumours of staff walkouts, possible bankruptcy and various nuggets of internal strife over the past few weeks.
id Software, meanwhile, are hard at work on the Doom reboot, recently shown off at this year’s QuakeCon event. Having a veteran developer like Sousa on board will do that project no harm at all.
