Maxis has posted a job advertisement looking for a senior designer to work on a brand new and as yet unannounced IP.
The job description demands an in-depth understanding of “games in the creativity space”, including Minecraft, Project Spark and Little Big planet.
”Maxis is seeking a Senior Designer to own and design many critical systems for a new, unannounced Maxis product being created at EA’s Redwood Shores, California Studio,” reads the job post. ”As a Senior Designer, you are responsible for the innovative design of new game systems in this unique, emerging IP, working with other designers to create a consistent, unified design.”
Other requirements include familiarity with social online games, understanding of RPG-like systems and crafting trees, and the ability ”to weave Free-to-Play game mechanics with monetization in simple, natural, respectful ways”.
Bleurgh, free-to-play, bleurgh, monetization. Surprisingly none of the key skills in the list included “the ability to not alienate most of our player base like we did with SimCity 2013.” Aha! Take that Maxis, my satire cuts like a rapier.
Seriously though, we’ll have to wait and see what the developer’s up to. According to the ad whatever Maxis is planning is coming to PC, mobiles and tablets, but presumably not for some while yet.
