Any zombie game worth its salt needs chainsaws. This is an immutable fact, and one that Day Z developer Bohemia has finally acknowledged with the release of the entertaining if impractical weapon in Patch 0.52, just in time for Christmas.
Actually there’s a few interesting new items added in the new patch; if the primitive delights of the ‘Stone Knife’ don’t sway you, perhaps the ‘Long Sword’ or the ‘Meat Cleaver’ will? And don’t forget to top off your zombie-fighting look with the ‘Full Ghillie suite’.
Of course it’s not all simply new weapons and outfits. The patch notes contain the the amusing descriptor “Suicides (variants)”, which basically means you can now decide to end your hellish, post-apocalyptic life if you’re wielding a suitable weapon. Unfortunately there’s no animation for it. So no decapitating yourself with a chainsaw, worse luck.
As a holiday season treat you can now seek out Christmas presents in towns and villages - which will inevitably end up being festive griefing hotspots - as well as plant seeds wherever you like. No more hunting for greenhouses, as long as you have the right gardening tools you can make your own little allotment in the wilderness.
Other goodies include new villages to explore, updated and improved environments, and reworked spawn points. It’s been a busy year for Bohemia and the Day Z development team, despite creator Dean Hall announcing that he as left the project.
