If there’s one thing you expect from a new Cliff Bleszinski game, it’s guns. Lots of guns. So it’s not entirely surprising that some of the first bits of concept art from the Gears of War creator’s next game, currently codenamed Project BlueStreak, show off an arsenal of futuristic weapons.
The game’s going to be a free-to-play PC shooter, with a focus on the kind of high-octane arena combat that Bleszinski specialised in during his time working on the Unreal series.
There’s a few shoulder-mounted rocket launchers and miniguns, what looks like a jetpack, and a Light Acceleration Weapon that looks almost exactly like one of the massive guns seen in Neill Blomkamp’s District 9. In fact, from the images of the game’s futuristic planet Earth setting, BlueStreak will feature a similar blend of used-future architecture and sleek, high-tech systems that the 2009 sci-fi film used so memorably.
Project BlueStreak is still in the early stages of development, and might change pretty dramatically as studio Boss Key continues to iterate. There’s no release schedule being bandied around just yet. For the full gallery of concept art, head here.
