Stoic Studio has released another brief slice of gameplay footage from The Banner Saga 2, the sequel to 2013’s gorgeously animated strategy game, in which you led a tribe of cartoon Vikings across an unforgiving wilderness.
That theme looks likely to continue in the follow-up, with a slightly more nautical twist; the teaser video shows a fleet of longboats leading downriver towards a colossal waterfall, formed by the earth itself breaking away.
The Banner Saga 2 was revealed last year at the 2014 Game Awards, but we’ve heard little about it since then. All we’ve got to go on are a few tweets from the game’s official Twitter account; there will be no sharks (shocking, right?), and we will apparently be able to play as the centaur-like Horseborn.
The latter didn’t make an appearance in the original game, but were hinted at several times via maps and other references. As for the game’s plot, the video itself is titled ‘Into the Abyss’. Those of you who completed the original may find that rings a bell.
There’s no release date set for The Banner Saga 2 right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear more about it soon.
