KING Art Games has set up a Kickstarter campaign for The Dwarves, an RPG adaptation of Markus Heitz’ bestselling fantasy novel.
One of the major mechanics here is a ”Crowd Combat System”, which simulates what happens when an axe-wielding, heavily-armored dwarf meets a horde of fragile goblins and orcs.
”Our Crowd Combat System uses physical parameters like mass, dimension and momentum of individual characters to calculate a realistic flocking behavior. If an enemy in the front is hurled into an ally behind him, the information instantaneously travels across the entire group and causes them to react accordingly - everyone is affected,” explains the developer.
Your general hacking and slashing plays out in an isometric viewpoint, and there’s a lashing of bullet time for those cinematic moments. The story casts you as Tungil, a human-raised dwarf who travels through the dwarven kingdoms on your typical fantasy quest.
KING Art is looking for $260,000 to fund the game’s development. The project has currently earned $47,000, with 37 days left to go.
