Some clever GTA V modders have managed to make quite a breakthrough, finally figuring out a way to add their own custom maps to the game. Previously the modding community had been restricted to using only assets found in the core game.
Should you happen to possess any coding skills yourself, you might want to check out modder NTAuthority’s lengthy post over on GTAForums.com, which explains how to add custom maps to the game.
This is a pretty exciting development, because it means that rather than simply messing around with GTA V’s San Andreas map, you could theoretically add any number of other worlds into the game. For example, as a proof of concept NTAuthority managed to transfer the map from the venerable Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 into the GTA V engine.
Modders like NTAuthority are still currently taking their first baby steps with this new process, but the implications for the future of modding in GTA V are pretty exciting.
