Fans have expressed concern and even dissent over the way Fallout 4 since it’s very first announcement. Bethesda has gone on public record saying that they do not care if you don’t like Fallout 4’s graphics, but even so, the developers put a ton of effort into the new graphics engine that is rendering Fallout 4 and shared how Creation Engine works to make the game beautiful.
The blog post explains where the developers went to work immediately following the completion of Skyrim.
“The first thing we did after Skyrim was to enhance the Creation Engine’s graphical core by adding a physically based deferred renderer. This new renderer allows us to add many more dynamic lights to every scene, and paint our surfaces with realistic materials. We want objects and characters in the world to feel tactile and grounded, and a big part of that is ensuring that these materials are distinct – that metal reflects light in a distinct manner from wood, for example.”
A lot of tech speak, but it sounds like the Creation Engine added massive versatility to the ability to design within the game’s world, from the grand scale down to the differentiating surface textures of all things. The post goes into depth on just what this change to the engine entailed in the way they approached the many different aspects of world building and capped with a promise.
“If you’re not sure what all of that means, don’t worry. What’s important is how this technology comes together with the art and gameplay of Fallout 4 to create a dynamic, immersive experience – no matter your gaming system.”
Good to know for everyone already chomping at the bit. It’s hard to wait for next Tuesday as it is.
