Dark Souls 2 was patched yesterday, and along with the gameplay adjustments we were promised, there’s a few surprises for those that manage to complete its final boss fight. Spoiler Klaxon Initiated
The new patch is a free update released in preparation for the forthcoming Scholar of the First Sin Edition, which will charge players full price again if they want to get the graphics we were promised in the first place. NOT THAT I’M BITTER.
Anyway, the free patch. Interestingly, it adds a new boss, the Scholar of the First Sin himself. He’s now the game’s final boss, and you can match yourself against once you beat Queen Nashandra. Apparently he will only appear if you bump into him at the Dragon Shrine and have a chat, so if you want to fight him you’ll need to start a new game if you’re past that point in your save.
There’s also a new ending option, once you manage to kill him. Is this the first time that such a big addition to a game’s lore has been added in a free patch? In any case, it’s nice that Dark Souls 2 owners get at least some extra content for free if they don’t want to splash out for the Scholar of the First Sin Edition.
