Charlie Intel is reporting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has been updated with several pieces of viral marketing for the next game in the blockbuster franchise.
Naturally, this has lead to speculation that Treyarch’s next Call of Duty game, set for release later this year, will be a third entry in the Black Ops trilogy.
The update adds a Snapchat QR code to posters on two multiplayer maps. you can check out Youtuber Drift0r’s take on the new teaser in the video above. The Snapchat link he discovered is now live, and leads to a short clip of an eye, then a forest, with a voiceover intoning ”listen only to the sound of my voice.” Which sounds a lot like the kind of brainwashing that the entire plot of the Black Ops series is based on.
It’s already been confirmed that Treyarch is handling this year’s Call of Duty. Many, me included, hoped that we might be returning to World War 2 with another World at War, but it seems like instead we’re back to Cold War espionage and sleeper agents. We’ll presumably find out for sure this summer, when Activision traditionally reveals the details on the year’s franchise entry.
