Gigantic is a colorful third person team-based shooter in a growing market of character-based arena games. Unfortunately, coming into December, Motiga has announced that it will be pushing Gigantic back to 2016 and has laid off several members of the development team.
The announcement came on Motiga’s official site. As the Gigantic dev team continues to work through the feedback collected from the game’s beta which debuted back in August of this year, Motiga CEO Chris Chung expressed a need for Motiga to protect and stretch resources for the long haul in lieu of the game’s delay.
”We’ve received lots of valuable feedback throughout our testing phases,” said Chung. ”And as we reflect on the things we must accomplish to meet the expectations we have set for ourselves, it is clear that we need to move the launch window for Gigantic into 2016… As a result, today Motiga has had to lay off 16 employees at the studio. All impacted employees are receiving severances and job placement assistance.”
Always unfortunate to hear, but as Chung points out in the letter, Gigantic is a “pre-revenue start-up” and consideration of what the studio has to dedicate to the project must be made. Gigantic has a lot of competition going into 2016. Gearbox Software’s Battleborn, Blizzard’s Overwatch, and Epic Games’ recently debuted Paragon are just a few of the entries ensuring that the bar is going to be high for character-based shooters in 2016.
As of now, Gigantic has no confirmed date or even month for 2016, but Chung concluded in saying that an updated plan for the games release, as well as details of the game’s current state will come soon.
