Running a corporate empire can be difficult, especially where there are so many other corps out there looking to take you down. CCP Games has been surveying CEOs and directors in EVE Online to see what changes to make.
One new thing on the horizon is setting the ‘legality’ of friendly fire. This is designed to help curb less-than-cordial behaviour, although there’s always a way to scheme a little revenge in EVE Online.
Attacking a fellow corporate buddy could ”carry criminal penalties” like those of CONCORD in high-sec space, hits to security status and even criminal flagging. ”Duels, kill-rights, outlaw flagging and similar situational events will always provide a way to legally attack corp-mates, and will override the friendly fire setting,” explained the studio. There are also lawless areas to exploit.
CCP want it so corporate leaders can have a degree of control over their members’ acts of aggression, and it will hopefully help others to join a player-run corporation if they feel ‘more secure’. They were going to make it a mandatory ‘no friendly fire’ rule, but some enjoy organised free-for-all events.
”The friendly fire setting can be configured by the CEO or a director from the corporation management window in the same way you configure tax levels and such. The change will require 24 hours to become active, after which it will apply to all corp members,” blogged the developer.
”When friendly fire is set to legal, aggression between two corp-mates will behave exactly as it does now in a player corp. When set to Illegal, aggressive acts will follow the same rules as they currently do in NPC corporations: attacks will invoke CONCORD (in high sec), trigger a security status penalty and also a Criminal/Suspect flag.”
”The friendly fire status of a corporation is always publicly visible to all players. It will be displayed in the various places such as the corp’s “Show-Info” window as well as in adverts shown in the Corporation Finder. If you’re searching for your next corp, you’ll be able to set a filter to only show corps where friendly fire is disabled.”
Mailing list membership is also increasing from 3,000 to 5,000, and the corporation details window is getting a makeover to support better customisation with fonts and links. Unrenting offices will also be made easier than it is right now, and invites can now be sent directly from the applications tab.
Custom messages can be attached to rejection notifications, ”and of course we know that you will only be sending those people love letters and kind words.” They also want us to know that they are working on the roles system, but nothing will be released about it in the Tiamat update due this February 17th.
