Indie developer The Game Bakers have announced a new hack-and-slash game, Furi, designed by studio co-founder Emeric Thoa and Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki.
According to Thoa, the game was a concept he really wanted to try: a game-long boss fight, except the boss isn’t a gigantic monster or supervillain with superpowers. The boss fight is a mirror of the protagonist, described by the studio as ”a boss fight that felt like a duel— a tense, exhausting, and utterly rewarding duel.”
In addition, ”The combat gameplay is designed with Japanese games in mind — ultra fast-paced and responsive. Your character moves as soon as you send an input. Skills and reflexes are required to dodge and parry the enemies’ attacks.” This shows in the distinctly anime appearance of the characters, reminiscent of such titles as Bungie’s ONI.
Furi will be released sometime in 2016.
