Electronic Arts has announced that its charming yarn-themed physics-based platformer Unravel will be launching on 9 February 2016, and have released a story trailer as well.
Ravel is a platformer in which the player takes on the role of a sentient ball of yarn named appropriately Yarny. It collects memories along the way. According to developer Coldwood Interactive, the game is ”all about overcoming obstacles, both big and small.” Players traverse the Scandinavian countryside as they solve puzzles, such as using Yarny’s thread to swing across a gap, or more complex problems which rely on the laws of physics to complete.
“Gaming is a powerful platform, able to inspire players and touch their hearts. With Unravel, we’re hoping to do just that,” stated Coldwood creative director Martin Sahlin. “Yarny’s quest is to mend broken bonds and the yarn represents the love and connection between people. Along the way, we’ll test your cleverness with environment-based puzzles inspired by our home in Northern Sweden.”
The game made its surprise premiere at the Electronic Arts conference at E3 2015, and Coldwood released a new story trailer showing off some of the gameplay.
