The full HD remastering of State of Decay will be available by the end of the month. Developer Undead Labs has gone through their sandbox zombie survivor and ‘improved’ textures, lighting, animations and combat.
While not the full sequel fans have been shambling and groaning for, the YOSE re-release does give a deeper polish to the surprising hit. In State of Decay we recruit and manage a terrified community.
What exactly does the Year-One Survival Edition have extra?
There are new animations and overhauled combat mechanics for one thing, thanks to the limitations of the original Xbox Live Arcade release being a relic of the past. There’s an extra 30 minutes to the game’s music, which was composed by Jesper Kyd (Hitman, Freedom Fighters, Assassin’s Creed, Borderlands 2).
Close-quarter combat now comes with a knife! There’s a crossover of certain elements from the Lifeline DLC in all the story campaigns. Everything is remastered in 1080p, along with new weapons, vehicles and a new mission type.
The user interface has been updated, with certain weather effects now rolling over the maps like fog and dust. Zombies will render from further away and they have their own new run animation.
Breakdown and Lifeline are all part of the Year-One Survival Edition. There’s a 33% discount for owners of the original State of Decay through Steam, which releases April 28th. Check out the video below for more on the game’s remaster - just ignore the silly Xbox stuff.
