Crytek has unveiled its latest game that will be exclusively for virtual reality headsets, The Climb. The game is very basic - you’re climbing a rockface, trying to reach the top of a mountain. The game will support Xbox One controllers and the Oculus Touch for the ultimate in virtual reality simulation.
According to the developer, the game will boast ”hyper-realistic climbing locations from around the world.” Using the Oculus Touch, players will be able to simulate actually grabbing onto crags and indents in the rockface to hoist themselves up. The first setting will be ”inspired” by picturesque Halong Bay in Vietnam, with its moss-covered cliffs. Crytek promised to reveal more locations in the near future.
The gameplay involves experimentation and exploration. ”You must find different grips or holds, each with their own challenge, to lift yourself as you chart your own route,” states Crytek on the simulation of sport rock climbing, adding ”the more active you are, the more you’ll need to use chalk on your in-game hands so you can stay on the rock!”
While the system specs are not set yet, Crytek estimates the recommended settings will be:
- CPU: Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
- Memory: 8GB RAM
- GPU: NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
- OS: Windows 7 SP1 or newer
- HDD: We do not know the final size of our game yet
- Display: Oculus Rift, native resolution
