Blizzard has been busy this holiday season getting something special ready for their free-to-play MOBA, Heroes of the Storm. They’ve rolled out a new patch for the game, along with a new seasonal event and new playable hero.
Blizzard’s lovely new holiday-themed event is called the Winter Veil. During the event players can earn, try, and buy several winter-themed goodies that will only be available during the event. Playing a certain number of games during the event will net players a Stimpack bonus which increases the percentage of gold and experience earned per match. 15 games gets a 4 day Stimpack and 30 games gets a 10 day Stimpack. Players can also check out the free Festive Treasure Goblin Mount which will only be available during the events duration and buy in on some specially priced bundles, skins, and heroes, including Sugar Plum Sylvanas and the newest hero of the game: Lunara.
Lunara is a ranged assassin with an edge in agility and tools built towards stacking increasingly heavy damage. Her Nature’s Toxin ability allows her to stack damage on enemies over a small period of time with each basic attack. Noxious Blossom is an area of affect ability that will damage enemies in range and add a stack of toxin as well. Players can take further advantage of these stacks with Crippling spores, which damages and slows enemies with at least one stack of toxin and adds another stack. Players familiar with Twitch from League of Legends will easily recognize the mechanics at play here. Lunara also has Dryad Swiftness in place of having an actual mount which allows her to move more rapidly across the field. She also has a Wisp that can scout unseen areas of the battlefield.
For Lunara’s heroic ability, she can use Thornwood Vine, which is a long range vine attack that damages all enemies in a line and can be used three times or Leaping Strike, which vaults Lunara over her target, damaging and slowing them briefly and can be uses two times.
Lunara and the Winter Veil event came out today alongside a new patch of tweaks and balances, the patch notes of which can be found here.
