CD Projekt Red released The Witcher 3 MODkit last week, allowing players to modify in-game assets, add their own models into the game in place of existing ones, and mess around with various scripts.
It’s a decent suite of tools, but it’s not as robust as the REDKit previously released for The Witcher 2, which allowed for full-scale support for total conversions, entirely new environments and more.
The game’s modding community is a little disappointed by this, but CD Projekt apparently has no plans to release more comprehensive modding software down the line. ”This is the mod support for the Wild Hunt. At this moment we are not planning to release anything else,” confirmed community lead Marcin Momot over Twitter.
It’s a shame - REDKit was generally regarded as an excellent tool, and lead to several ambitious creations - but given CD Projekt’s generosity when it comes to DLC, it’s hard to get too angry. Besides, Momot’s words don’t entirely rule out the release of a more advanced modding suite, given time. For now though, the MODKit is all we’re getting.
