Yesterday, RuneScape developer Jagex announced and launched DarkScape, a free to play “experimental sandbox MMO.” In the trailer below, Jagex outline a game set in the same world as RuneScape but with an anything goes, kill or be killed PvP twist.
Apparently DarkScape focuses on high risk trade routes between three regions, each with their own economy and fragile player alliances. Players can murder each other at will and DarkScape should make for some interesting player interaction or turn into a griefer’s paradise.
While you can download the brutal sounding MMO now, it is very much a work in progress as DarkScape producer Conor Crowley said “We spent time looking for a way to get DarkScape into the hands of players as soon as possible, so the game launching today is very much an experimental first step. That said, it will continue to evolve and further develop based on how players explore our fresh take on a deadly MMO experience.”
Existing RuneScape players will receive a juicy 1.5x experience boost, extra bank space and some protection from item loss at their inevitable demise at the hands of fellow players.
