H1Z1 may have had something of a troubled launch, but you just can’t keep a zombie game down. Daybreak Game Company’s open world survival MMO has sold over a million copies on Steam since its debut back in January.
Daybreak president John Smedley revealed the numbers on his Twitter account yesterday.
Currently still in Early Access, H1Z1 hardly had the smoothest ride out of the gates. Server issues plagued the initial launch, followed by accusations of ”pay to win” practices by the community, and a wave of cheating. That’s not to mention the problems caused by Sony Online Entertainment’s sale, and a subsequent round of layoffs at the newly renamed Daybreak.
Quite the laundry list of woe. Considering all that, it’s pretty crazy that the game’s managed to hit a million copies sold. People are clearly not yet tired of either zombie games or survival games. Will they ever be, I wonder?
H1Z1 doesn’t yet have a full release date, but we do know that the game will transition to a free-to-play model when the final version is released. For the meantime, updates continue to roll out.
