Gears of War has had a history of exclusivity with the Xbox platforms. Many would argue that it was always a driving reason to have an Xbox 360 in the first place. That said, there’s either some confusion or hints of a Gears of War 4 PC release over on UK-based online retailer GAME.
The website has a listing for Gears of War 4 already, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. What is surprising is the link claiming the game is also available for PC. It could just as well be a mistake. There’s even less information on the PC page than on the Xbox One page. Nonetheless, the fact that there’s a link to pre-order for PC points to something they know that we don’t or simply a very big oversight.
There’s plenty of reason for Microsoft to want to keep Gears of War exclusive to Xbox. It’s been a best seller and driving force for the console in every entry. Not that people wouldn’t buy Xboxes if Gears of War could be bought elsewhere, but there’s no doubt it’s a factor among the sales and life of the consoles. Nonetheless, it’s nice to think that Microsoft could actually be allowing PC gamers a chance to have at the fantastic 3rd-person shooter franchise that is Gears of War out of the gate, considering the only entry we’ve ever had is the original title in 2007 and the upcoming port of the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
Either way, Gears of War 4 is slated for December 2016 and only officially confirmed for Xbox One for now. Fingers crossed that changes.
