Florence-based indie developer LKA.it has announced that its first person psychological horror adventure game, The House of Light, will be arriving on 23 February 2016. The game will be playable as an Oculus Rift VR title, and was originally due to be released in Fall 2015.
Creative director Lucas Dalcò attributed the delay to getting the game finely polished, stating, ”Since The Town of Light is our first project we want to make sure to use all the time available to make all the game mechanics work perfectly. It was not an easy decision but we are sure it is the best one for the game and for the players.”
The Town of Light has already received a ton of attention from various groups as a VR game, winning Best Story and Story Telling Award at Paris Game Connection 2014 and was a finalist at Geekie Awards 2014 in Los Angeles,
The game is set in the real-life Volterra Psychiatric Asylum, which established in the 1600’s but was shut down in 1978 by the Italian government for “cruel pratices”. The infamous asylum, dubbed “The Place of No Return”, was home to over 6000 patients who were sent there for “treatment” but never left. One patient, Oreste Ferdinand Nannetti, left strange artwork on the walls consisting of runes and symbols.
Players take on the role of Renée, an imaginary 16 year-old girl who is suffering from mental illness. To tease the game, Renée’s Diary will be released in 9 bi-weekly installments before release.
