Forza Motorsport 6: Apex was accidentally leaked earlier today, but now the embargo has been lifted, and more information has been revealed by Microsoft.
What was already known from the leaked article is that Forza Motorsport 6: Apex will be a Windows 10 Store exclusive and will be a “slimmed down” free-to-play version of the Xbox One version. However, it seems that Apex is intended as a taste for future Forza PC content, as Microsoft has also announced that future Forza PC games will be released concurrently with the console version.
That’s not to say Apex is a quickie effort. The Windows 10 game will feature DirectX 12 and support full 4K resolution. The game features plenty of content, though not to the degree of the full Xbox One version of course. It’ll include 12 themed racing events, more than 60 cars, and a new objective system that features skill-based tasks for players to complete for in-game currency.
What Microsoft has been mum about is future content for Apex. Killer Instinct is a free-to-play title coming to PC this month that features purchasable content, so it is possible that Apex will enjoy the same model. However, it’s also possible that Apex is intended to introduce PC gamers into the Forza franchise, and Forza Motorsport 7 will be the true full PC release.
Stay tuned.
