Paradox Interactive has announced another expansion for Europa Universalis IV, this time taking to the briny sea with Mare Nostrum. ”If you control the sea lanes, you control the trade. If you control the trade, you control the world,” states the publisher.
Mare Nostrum bolsters the intricacies of the naval component of the base game, as players must now produce sailors to man and repair ships, while a new naval mission system has been added. Piracy will be rampant as the Barbary Coast nations of North Africa can now raid their neighbors for gold and sailor conscripts. ”There are also new options for creating trade leagues, and a host of other improvements,” promises the publisher.
The expansion also brings these new features as well:
- Condottieri: Rent out your soldiers as mercenaries to give an underdog a fighting chance while filling your treasury
- Trade Leagues: For merchant republics, the power of the purse is amplified by creating economic and military alliances
- Share Maps: Instead of waiting for the world to come to you, ask your friends if they have discoveries they are willing to share.
The expansion will be accompanied by a new patch, version 1.16, which will include game balancing tweaks. Mare Nostrum will be available soon from major digital distributors and the Paradox store.
