Two months ago, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 appeared on Steam without any English localization, to the frustration of Western fans of the long-running grand strategy game. Well, it seems that will be rectified, as Koei Tecmo has announced that the English version of the game will be coming to PC and PlayStation 4 this coming July 8th, 2016.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 is a part of the 30th anniversary of the game. As most fans of the series know, it takes place just before the unification of 2nd century China, as various factions vie to lead the country into the future. ”Cities can be built and developed; alliances can be fostered or broken; armies can be mustered and deployed.” Players can use a wide variety of army units that can be recruited and trained. Units include foot soldiers, cavalry, artillery, and navy.
Of course, the selling point of the game is not just the miliary side, but the political intrigues players must be versed in. The game stresses diplomacy and personal relationships between their kingdoms and their vassals and other kingdoms.
There are two modes included in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. One is the classic Campaign mode, allowing players to choose a starting year and customize the board to their liking before attempting to beat the game. The other is the Hero mode, which is basically a tutorial which follows the actual historical events while teaching players the gameplay mechanics; it also will allow alternate history by using different characters in various roles. ”In Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII players have near endless customisation choices, as they can take on the mantle of one of 700 historical characters (including such fan- favourites as Zhao Yun, Liu Bei, Cao Cao and more), or create their own unique character and try to climb the proverbial leadership ladder,” promises Koei Tecmo.
The publisher also released a trailer. Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 will also be released on PlayStation 4 on the same July 8th date.
