Disney has announced that it will not be releasing a new edition of its toys-to-life game Disney Infinity this year, and will rather be focusing on creating new Play Sets instead.
According to Disney Interactive general manager John Blackburn, this is due to popular demand. “We value our fans and your feedback, and we’ve heard your requests to extend the life of our Starter Packs loud and clear,” said Blackburn in a blog post. In other words, fans didn’t want to have to buy toys all over again for a new game.
Disney will be releasing new figurines including characters from the upcoming Pixar film Zootopia, Baloo from The Jungle Book, and Marvel Battlegrounds.
The Marvel content is getting special attention. ”With this Play Set, we are introducing four-player local co-op gameplay to Disney Infinity, which we think is a perfect fit for the arcade, brawler gameplay featured in Marvel Battlegrounds,” explained Blackburn.
”Today we announced that three brand new iconic characters will be joining Captain America – The First Avenger, Hulkbuster and Ultron in the fray of Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains: Black Panther, Ant-Man and Vision – with more on the way,” Blackburn went on to announce. ”The new line-up of characters includes costumes inspired by the upcoming film Captain America: Civil War, releasing in theaters May 6, 2016.”
He also revealed that the Black Suit Spider-Man suit will be available. It had originally been an exclusive for the PlayStation Vita version of Disney Infinity 2.0.
