Getting in on the Early Access action seen on Steam and Xbox over the years, Bohemia Interactive is taking a slightly difference approach in an effort to get its players more involved in the game development process.
The Bohemia Incubator label will become an ever-present tag on the company’s future projects whenever it feels consistent user input is best for the long-term viability of a title. Starting with Ylands and Project Argo, hopeful players will be able to aid in the development process by testing key concepts and taking a peek at design documents.
Citing differences between itself and Steam Greenlight, an Incubator project has the potential to be much rougher around the edges - whether that means users get hands-on time much earlier in the design process or the program simply allows for more creative freedom is unknown, but Bohemia make sure to specify a title holding the Incubator logo can be cancelled at any time.
Though newly announced Incubator titles will likely be available to test for free, already established software - like Ylands - will usually have access gated behind a low entry cost, much like most Steam Greenlight titles.
Project Argo - a competitive shooter conversion of Arma 3 - is part of the free access portion of Incubator, meaning anyone can go ahead and download the title free of charge.
