Dishonored 2 is going to grace our presence very shortly with its first person stealth assassin action. The games predecessor had some fairly successful and well-received downloadable content. With the sequel hitting shelves shortly and little to no news on any DLC plans for the game, speculation is rife.
Bethesda’s upcoming release does have pre-order bonuses, but nothing at this stage is known about post-launch Dishonored 2 DLC, although we have come up with a few things that we would definitely like to see added in the new game.
Expanded Universe
Dishonored has always been small in scope in terms of being centered around a small cast of characters and Dishonored 2 looks to continue in that vein. While the new playable character Emily is set to be a nice change of pace from Corvo since her playstyle is unique to her, we feel that stand-alone DLC could provide even more opportunity to expanded the universe.
Having DLC that centers around a side character, lore character or even someone completely new could help open up the world of Dishonored. Having a story that relates but is not directly connected to the main Dishonored story such as events leading up to or perhaps events that happen alongside the main story would be interesting to see.
The world of Dishonored is a great one with plenty of story to be told and sights to see. Fallout 3 did a great job with DLC’s like Operation Anchorage, Point lookout, and The Pit. Something along these lines for Dishonored 2 could potentially be a great hit with players and fans.
Side Quests
When you love a game, you never want that game to stop giving you content to enjoy. Side quests can be great tools to provide fun narrative content that takes a break from the main plot of a game. The Witcher 3 did this in a great way by having side quests tell short stories of their own.
Plenty of additional side quest content could be a huge benefit to Dishonored 2 if it does the storytelling well. The more the merrier as the saying goes and it applies with side quest content. Dishonored has a great world to explore and find things in, so why not put plenty of things to do in it too.
Story Expansions
The end is never the end in Bethesda games and hopefully, it won’t be here too. We’d love to have some solid story expansions to the game in the DLC content, we are talking hours worth of new content. Story expansions can be some of the best DLC games can get if it is done in the right way.
Not only does there need to be new narrative, cutscenes, dialogue and quests but also new items and progression. We want story DLC that feels different, that adds something to the game that was not there before and extended progression and new items is a good way to do that. Players loved the Knife of Dunwall story DLC for the original game, but we would like to see something with a bit more scope.
Overall we want something that is going to immerse us in the world and lore of Dishonored. Whatever the DLC content turns out to be, it needs to be of a high standard and have plenty of gameplay time. The content we want needs to add to the game at the same time as creating a memorable unique experience. We won’t have to wait long to jump back into the world as Dishonored 2 is coming this November.
