Microsoft have been rather quiet in the last few years in regards to the AAA games they release on Windows. That is all about to change with the Xbox Play Anywhere service that allows Xbox One users to purchase a game for their console, and later receive the same game on their PC. In addition to this, the same user who purchased a game on their Xbox can play side-by-side with a friend on the PC.
”With the Xbox Play Anywhere program, you can buy a game once and play on your Windows 10 PC and Xbox One with shared progress, shared game saves and shared achievements,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Windows and Devices Group. ”Every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere and will be easily accessible in the Windows Store.”
This service was first tested with the Gears of War Remastered Edition and Quantum Break, both of which are now available to purchase on Windows 10. The full version of Xbox Play Anywhere (the official title of this scheme) will launch in September with ReCore.
As of today, there are twelve confirmed Xbox Play Anywhere titles. The games are as followed:
• We Happy Few
• ReCore
• Forza Horizon 3
• Gears of War 4
• Cuphead
• Halo Wars 2
• Sea of Thieves
• Scalebound
• State of Decay 2
• Crackdown 3
• Killer Instinct Season 3
• Ark: Survival Evolved
Unfortunately, retail copies of these Xbox Play Anywhere titles are not supported. To get the Windows version of the Xbox One game, players must purchase the games directly from the Xbox Store.
