You might recall Harebrained Schemes as the studio behind the recent, Kickstarted Shadowrun Returns, which released a few years ago to a pretty solid response. More recently they raised $2.7 million to bring a new BattleTech game to life, and now we’re finally getting the chance to see the fruits of their labors.
The 20-minute gameplay video was meant for Kickstarter backers only, but somebody went and posted the unlisted Youtube link to Reddit. Oops! It shows off an early build of the game–”super pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha”–that will be demoed this weekend at Gencon in Indianapolis.
We’ve got your tactical needs covered with our list of the best strategy games on PC!
The demo features a single mission with a squad of four mechs taking on an enemy base. I won’t give you the full play-by-play, but it’s already looking like a very solid strategy game with a lot of interesting tactical considerations. It also looks pretty good even in this early state, with loads of neat weather effects, and of course super-cool mechs.
BattleTech is planned for release in mid-2017, but as with any Kickstarter timeline, take that with a grain of salt. If you want to hop on the bandwagon to help the game’s development, you can sign up to be a late backer on the official website.
