Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth is a huge hit both in literature and on screen. The story of the building of Kingsbridge cathedral with the all the shapings of murder, politics, and villains is a well-known tale that is much loved. Pillars of the Earth is finally coming to video games thanks to a partnership between Daedalic Entertainment and Bastei Lübbe.
The classic story will take the form of a point and click adventure with a distinct art style. Daedalic have had success with the point and click genre and will no doubt be looking to use their formulae to create a narratively driven experience that does justice to the source material.
If you haven’t read or watched the Pillars of the Earth story, I highly recommend you do so. The 2010 miniseries starring Ian McShane, Eddie Redmayne, Rufus Sewell and an all-star cast was a fantastic show produced by Ridley Scott. The game is once again set to showcase the drama of the novel and ingross players into a world of Kings and Priests vying for power.
Pillars of the Earth is set to launch sometime in 2017 for Windows PC, Mac, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and iOS. The game will release as will a new novel written by Ken Follett which will be set in the same fictitious medieval town of Kingsbridge in South England.
